September 24

Today we read a story and watched a video about Terry Fox.
Some students felt scared and unsure about his journey.  Please speak with your child about Terry Fox.

More information can be found at:  https://www.terryfox.org/

Today we also had our first Fire Drill.  Room 11 did a WONDERFUL job at staying calm, quiet and safe.

Class read aloud

We have been enjoying the book The Wild Robot as our class read aloud.  The book is about a robot named Roz who is washed up on an island full of forest animals.

Reading Stamina

Something exciting happened yesterday... We made it to 10 minutes during our read to self time!!

Students in room 11 have been working to build their reading stamina.  During this time they must stay in their seat and focus on reading their books.

As a reward for making it to 10 minutes our classroom reading corner is open for business!  Students are very excited to get a chance to read in our peaceful reading corner.

Representing Numbers

Part of the math curriculum is to represent and describe numbers concretely, pictorially, and symbolically. (Grade 2's to 100 and Grade 3's to 1,000)

Yesterday we worked on representing numbers.  Students were asked to pick their own numbers and show it in as many ways as possible.

Terry Fox - Thursday September 26th

On Thursday September 26th, CJP students and staff will be participating in the Terry Fox run. Our class runs at 2:55 and families are welcome to join while we run or walk, or just come to cheer us on. Please bring appropriate outdoor shoes, a water bottle and clothing for the weather that day.

Please bring in a donation of “A Toonie for Terry”. Every child who brings in a donation will have their name entered in a draw to win a Terry Fox t-shirt. The draw will take place before the morning run, so the winning child can wear their Terry Fox t-shirt during the run if they want to.

Students who donate $10 can participate in “Fashion for Fox”. For every $10 (or more) donation a child can bring an item of clothing to dress their teacher. Teachers will wear the item while participating in the Terry Fox run. (No masks or anything else that will make it dangerous or difficult to run).

If, students and families would like to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation they can  in the following ways:

  • by contributing online by visiting http://www.terryfox.ca/captainjohnpalliser
Tax receipts will be issued by the Terry Fox Foundation for on-line and cheque donations over $20.00 .
  • by sending cash or cheque (made payable to The Terry Fox Foundation) to school.
All monies raised at the school through our event will be forwarded to the Foundation to further the cause of cancer research.  The deadline for donation is October 1, 2019.
