Our 100th day Celebration!

Today we Celebrated our 100th (-1) day of school!

In Writer's Workshop students wrote about:

  • "If I had 100 legs I would..."
  • "If I had $100 I would buy..."
  • "Before I turn 100 years old I want to..."
In Math, students made a puzzle out of their completed 100 Charts and used their knowledge of numbers (+/-1 and +/-10) to solve each other's.  These puzzles went home today in their Communication Folders.

For Social Studies, students drew pictures of what they think they will look like when they are 100 years old.  We will be using these pictures for our Past, Present and Future projects.

After reading the book 100 Days of Cool, we decided as a class to dress up again tomorrow as "cool kids".

Today we had some 100 year old visitors!

Rock Sharing Class - the sequel

After much excitement over our first Rock Sharing Class, students have asked for one more sharing class before we finish this Science unit.

Students are welcome to bring in a rock from home or one they have found on their journey to school on Thursday February 20th.  This will be our last Rock Sharing class.

If you participated in the last sharing class and have more to share you are welcome to participate again.

Happy Rock Hunting!

100th Day of School Celebration

On Wednesday February 19th we will be celebrating our 100th day of school! On this day, students are invited to dress like they are 100 years old!
For the celebration we will be focusing on the number 100.  In writing we might write about what we will have accomplished before we turn 100 years old, or what we would do if we won $100.

We will be using our costumes as an idea of what we will look like in the future for our upcoming Social Studies project: My Past, Present and Future.

Parents, if you are interested in coming in to school that day to join our celebration please email Ms Howard.  We would encourage you to also participate in dressing up!

Happy 100th Room 11!

Subtraction Lesson

Please see the following video of Ms. Howard demonstrating step by step how to subtract with regrouping.

Grade 2's are expected to subtract with regrouping up to 100 and grade 3's to 1000.

**Please note I use the word "ones" and "units" they are the same thing.

Felting today

Today we were lucky enough to work on a felting project.  There were many steps we had to take to ensure that our felt stayed together and created the picture we chose.

Ask your child their favourite part of their felting experience and what steps they needed to take.

Our felting projects will be going home sometime next week.

We will be felting again in the first week of March.

Upcoming Social Studies Project

In Social Studies, we continue to study our Community in the Past.  We have examined landmarks and symbols that represent our country, our province, our city and our community.

Next we will be examining Calgary's past and how it has influenced today, and how our present will influence our future.

We will begin by examining our own past, present, and future.  In order to do this we need your help!  Please send in a baby or toddler picture of your child that you do not expect to get back.  This can be a copy of a picture or an actual photograph.  Please write your child's name and age on the back of the picture.

Pictures are due by February 18th.

Thank you!

Science Fair Judges Needed

Hi Families,
Students in the CJP Science Fair Club have been working hard on their Science Fair projects and would love an opportunity to present and compete in the city wide science fair. In order to know if they are eligible we require judges. Judges need to have volunteer clearance!

Whether you have a specialty or expertise in the field, are passionate about Science or want to be more involved in supporting our CJP community, please sign up online! If all the spaces seem full online- that's okay! Email one of the science fair coordinators as we would like as many judges as possible! If you know someone who would be able to volunteer, pass on the information to them.

Our Science Fair will be on Tuesday Feb. 25 from 9:30am-12pm. Further information for all volunteers will be sent out a week before the fair. Thank you for your support!
