Today we read a story and watched a video about Terry Fox.
Some students felt scared and unsure about his journey. Please speak with your child about Terry Fox.
We have been enjoying the book The Wild Robot as our class read aloud. The book is about a robot named Roz who is washed up on an island full of forest animals.
Something exciting happened yesterday... We made it to 10 minutes during our read to self time!!
Students in room 11 have been working to build their reading stamina. During this time they must stay in their seat and focus on reading their books.
As a reward for making it to 10 minutes our classroom reading corner is open for business! Students are very excited to get a chance to read in our peaceful reading corner.
On Thursday September 26th, CJP students and staff will be participating in the Terry Fox run. Our class runs at 2:55 and families are welcome to join while we run or walk, or just come to cheer us on. Please bring appropriate outdoor shoes, a water bottle and clothing for the weather that day.
Please bring in a donation of “A Toonie for Terry”. Every child who brings in a donation will have their name entered in a draw to win a Terry Fox t-shirt. The draw will take place before the morning run, so the winning child can wear their Terry Fox t-shirt during the run if they want to.
Students who donate $10 can participate in “Fashion for Fox”. For every $10 (or more) donation a child can bring an item of clothing to dress their teacher. Teachers will wear the item while participating in the Terry Fox run. (No masks or anything else that will make it dangerous or difficult to run).
If, students and families would like to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation they can in the following ways:
by contributing online by visitinghttp://www.terryfox.ca/captainjohnpalliser Tax receipts will be issued by the Terry Fox Foundation for on-line and cheque donations over $20.00 .
bysending cash orcheque (made payable to The Terry Fox Foundation) to school.
All monies raised at the school through our event will be forwarded to the Foundation to further the cause of cancer research. The deadline for donation is October 1, 2019.
Today we talked about filling and dipping buckets. Each student was assigned a job to FILL A BUCKET at recess time. Ask me what I did to fill someone's bucket.
Today we did an OWI. An OWI is where you look a picture and talk about what you OBSERVE, what you WONDER and what you INFER.
Here is our OWI picture. Let me show you how it's done!
Saving Sam!
Today we worked to save Sam. We could only touch is boat, life vest and him with paper clips. Our job was to get Sam back in him boat wearing his life vest. Let me tell you what I learned.
Today we practiced reading to self. Our goal is to be able to sit and read to self for 20 minutes. Today we made it to 2 minutes as a whole class team.
There is a notice going home in your Communication Folder. Please fill it out and return it tomorrow.
For attendance we popped like popcorn. The students did a great job and they were awesome and respectful. We had a spaghetti challenge. Ask me about it. Communication folders are going home today. Please make sure they come back each morning. **Parents please fill and return the orange sheet as soon as possible
Please be aware that we have many allergies in our classroom. We have a couple severe nut allergies, gluten allergies, perfume and egg. Please be mindful of this.
