Rocks and Rings (Curling) in PE
Today we started our curling unit in PE! We began by learning the correct terms for the house, the button and the rocks.
We then practiced pushing our rocks to get as close to the button as possible. We will continue playing in the new year!
Attached is a video that outlines the basics of curling:

Cards and Letters to Canadian Soldiers
We have been learning about global citizenship and different people and organizations that demonstrate it daily. We have learned how people and organizations can make the world a better place.
We know holidays can be a difficult time for Canadian Soldiers as many of them are stationed far away from home. We decided to show global citizenship by making cards for them. These cards are either a thank you card, a holiday card, or just a card for warm wishes. We hope that our effort will brighten someone's day.
We will be sending our letters early next week.

Letter Writing
We have started practicing letter writing during our Writer's Workshop time. We have discussed the many purposes for writing a letter, and the different ways to send one.
Each student has written a letter to a family member and has brought it home in their communication folder. Enjoy!

Winter Break Book Return
This year we are asking that all student library books be returned to the library by Monday, December 16th. We are hoping that having all the books come back before the break, will help to assure there are less books that get lost. The library will still be open Mon – Wed next week for students to come and enjoy some reading time, but there will not be any book exchange.

Social Studies today
Today in Social Studies we discussed Organizations that help around the world. We focused on the United Nations and how it was formed.
We then discussed how organizations help with Natural Disasters. We talked about the Calgary Floods and how lucky we were to have so much help from within and outside of Canada.
There was much interest and questions around this topic. Please take some time to discuss the Calgary floods at home and your experiences.
